Lord, Save Me!

Updated: Jan 16

You will all know the shortest prayer in the Bible, “Lord, save me!”  when Peter began to sink in the Sea of Galilee and feared for his life.

Jesus had invited him to step out of the boat and on to the water, but Peter saw the wind and became instantly afraid.

That's what caused him to pray his brief prayer. Not eloquent, but effective!  Because Jesus reached out his hand and caught him.

“You of little faith,” he said, “Why did you doubt?”

If this were a time of prayer ministry, Jesus would be the minister (as he always is), and Peter would be the guest.

Our job as prayer ministers is to work with our guests and, together, seek His help to heal wounds and put right what is needed.

And the most effective prayers are often the ones that are spoken by the guest. They don’t need to be eloquent, and short and sweet is just fine.

Even guests who have never prayed aloud before discover the freedom there is in Jesus by sharing their needs and forgiving those who need it.

There is no need for long prayers or eloquence when our guests bring their personal and immediate needs to Jesus with simple, direct words, by themselves... just as Peter did.

And Jesus will reach out his hand and catch them too.
